📄 Overview

Boracay is a small island (10.32 kmu00b2) in the municipality of Malay, Aklan, Western Visayas, renowned worldwide for its powdery white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Consistently ranked among the world's best beaches, Boracay is the Philippines' premier beach tourism destination, attracting approximately 2 million visitors annually prior to the pandemic and recovering strongly since.

📄 Beaches & Attractions

White Beach, the main attraction, stretches 4 km along the western coast with its famous sunset views. It is divided into three stations: Station 1 (most upscale, widest beach), Station 2 (commercial center, dining and shopping hub), and Station 3 (quieter, budget-friendly). Puka Shell Beach on the north offers a more rustic experience. Other activities include kite surfing and windsurfing at Bulabog Beach (eastern coast), cliff diving at Ariel's Point, island-hopping tours, and the famous nightlife scene.

📄 Accommodations & Dining

Boracay offers over 400 accommodations ranging from luxury resorts (Shangri-La, Discovery Shores, The Lind) to mid-range hotels and budget hostels. Peak season rates (December-January, March-April) are 2-3x off-season rates. The dining scene features everything from beachside grilled seafood and Filipino eateries to international fine dining. Famous food experiences include D'Mall's restaurant row, beachfront buffets, and happy hour sunset cocktails.

📄 Getting There

Access is via Caticlan Airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, 10-minute boat ride to the island) or Kalibo International Airport (90-minute van ride to Caticlan jetty port). From Manila, flights to Caticlan take about 1 hour; flights to Kalibo about 45 minutes. From Cebu, direct flights are available. Sea transport from Batangas Port is available but takes 8+ hours. Environmental and terminal fees are collected at the jetty port.

🇵🇭 Philippine Context

Boracay underwent a major 6-month rehabilitation in 2018 ordered by President Duterte to address environmental degradation, resulting in improved sewage systems, stricter building codes, and carrying capacity limits. The island is managed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force. For real estate, Boracay properties command premium prices for tourism rental income. Condotel investments, resort developments, and commercial lots in Station 1 and 2 are highly sought after. Foreign ownership follows Philippine constitutional restrictions on land ownership.
