Mindanao State University (MSU)

Mindanao State University (MSU) is a premier public university system in Mindanao, with its main campus in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur. Established in 1961 through RA 1387, MSU was created to provide quality education to the people of Mindanao, particularly in Muslim-majority areas, and to promote integration and development across the island. MSU is the Mindanao counterpart of the University of the Philippines.

MSU offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs across all major disciplines: agriculture, arts and sciences, business, education, engineering, fisheries, forestry, law, medicine, and public affairs. The main campus (MSU-Marawi) houses the College of Law, College of Medicine, and various graduate programs. The university system includes 11 campuses across Mindanao: MSU-General Santos, MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT, the most academically prestigious campus), MSU-Maguindanao, MSU-Sulu, MSU-Tawi-Tawi, and others.

The main campus in Marawi City sits on a 1,000-hectare property overlooking Lanao Lake. MSU-IIT in Iligan City is the system's top-performing campus in academics and research. MSU-General Santos serves the SOCCSKSARGEN region. MSU-Buug (Zamboanga Sibugay), MSU-Maguindanao, and other campuses extend access to quality education throughout Mindanao, including conflict-affected areas.

MSU plays a critical role in Mindanao's peace-building and development through education. The university provides educational access to underserved communities, including Muslim and indigenous populations. MSU campuses drive economic activity in their host cities, supporting local real estate markets through student housing demand and employment. MSU-IIT in particular has contributed to Iligan City's growth as an industrial and educational center in Northern Mindanao.
